Jack Conklin-Offensive Tackle-Michigan State
Size: 6’6 308lbs

Jack Conklin
(Matthew Mitchell / MSU Athletic Communications)

Strengths:

  • Strong and powerful
  • Able to recover when beaten off of snap
  • Gets to 2nd level with ease
  • Solid combo blocker
  • Sound technique
  • Hard worker

Analysis: Jack Conklin has risen up my draft board over the past few months and has overtaken Ronnie Stanley as my No.2 OT in this year’s draft. He has sound technique that allows him to recover quickly when beaten off the snap. His powerful hands and core allow him to engage with defenders and not let them go. On tape, he worked very well with his guards on combo blocks, getting to the second level successfully. He destroyed my No.1 defensive lineman DeForest Buckner on tape. No one will out-work him.

Weaknesses:

  • Lacks athleticism
  • Needs to keep hands inside
  • Gets beaten by speed rush
  • Slow-ish

Analysis: If Jack Conklin gets beat by opposing defensive lineman it will be coming on the speed rush. He lacks the athleticism to kick-back and get to the defenders in time. He has shown a tendency to be like a “drunk teenager and gets a little grabby” to defenders. With coaching they will get him to keep his hands inside and prevent holding calls against him. Relies heavily on brute strength, but will need to show quicker feet at the next level.

Draft Projection: Top 15
