After all the talk and chitter-chatter the last couple of days, Jimmy Butler is staying in Chicago. Heck, even Butler himself said that he wanted to sign with the Lakers on a one-year deal. Chicago had all of the leverage in this situation though, and Butler is getting paid. He has agreed to a max 5-year, $95 million dollar deal to stay in Chicago, and who can blame him for that amount of cash.

Jimmy Butler wasn’t wanting to sign a multi-year contract, but money has a tendency of changing patterns of thought rather quickly. Yes, Tom Thibodeau is out in Chicago and Derrick Rose still has bad knees, but the Bulls had to keep Butler to stay competitive. Unlike other free agent deals and re-signings so far today, Butler’s performance in 2014 warrants a bigger payday. A lot of teams have overpaid for players today (like Al-Farouq Aminu), but Butler is an exception. Expect more money to fly out of the wallets of NBA team owners today, but that’s none of Jimmy Butler’s business.
