Joey Votto Sleeper Candidate
Joey Votto- 1st Baseman- Cincinnati Reds
2013 Stats: 162 GP, 101 R, 24 HR, 73 RBI, .305 BA
2014 Stats: 62 GP, 32 R, 6 HR, 23 RBI, .255 BA
Coming off of his worst statistical season, and a career low 62 games some might write Joey Votto off of their fantasy baseball draft board. I will not be one of those people. I have Votto marked as a potential sleeper pick with loads of value based on where he is being drafted.
The Reds first baseman is returning from a severe quad injury, but as of January 22nd Votto was declared “as close to 100% as he’ll ever be.” Let’s not forget, Votto is only one season removed from playing in all 162 games and batting over .300.
Since Votto entered the league in 2007, he has batted less than .300 just twice (Batted .297 in 2008), and the other being last season which I will give him a mulligan for. At 31, Votto is still capable of batting north of .290 with 20+ HRs–which is being modest with his history. These potential numbers are even better when you look at Joey’s ADP (average draft position) of the 7th round, which is about 90th overall in a 12 man league. That value, which does come with some risk, would allow you to focus on other areas of your fantasy team, and build depth.
