Johnny Cueto outduels Jacob deGrom in battle of the Aces
After Game 1 between the Mets and Royals that finished in a nail biter, Game 2 was a different story as Jacob deGrom struggled for the first time in the postseason against the scrappy Royals. deGrom finished the game only completing 5 innings, allowing six hits, four runs, three walks and only two strikeouts. The offense fared no better, as they were held to a measly 2 hits, as Johnny Cueto rediscovered his magic that found him such a hot trade commodity during the midseason.
Cueto threw the first complete game by an American League pitcher in the World Series, an overall gem as he allowed 2 hits, a run, and struck out 4 as he came away with the Win. Cueto not only brought home the victory, but also helped save a depleted bullpen that was worn out after tossing eight shut out innings the night before. As for the Royals offense, they struggled through 4 innings as deGrom was cruising until their offense woke up in the 5th. The Royals stayed aggressive at the plate, and were able to turn it around, scoring four runs in the fifth inning that ran deGrom out the game.
The Royals would later tack on three more runs in the eighth to increase the lead to 7-1, which wound up being the final score as the Royals take a 2-0 lead over the Mets. The teams will then travel to New York to play Game 3 as the Mets send Noah Syndergaard to the mound to face Yordano Ventura on Friday night, as the both are young with electrifying arms looking to come away with big wins for their ball club.
