Johnny Manziel announced as starter for Montreal
Johnny Manziel will make his CFL debut against his former team.
The Alouettes made the announcement Tuesday that Manziel will be their starter Friday night when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
As reported by MFST, Manziel was dealt for an impressive haul on July 22nd.
The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner played in both of Hamilton’s exhibition games — completing 21-of-31 passes for 168 yards and a TD while rushing six times for 19 yards — but remained on the sidelines as Jeremiah Masoli’s backup once the regular season began.
Manziel dressed for Montreal’s 44-23 loss last week to Edmonton but didn’t play as Vernon Adams Jr. went the distance, completing 15-of-28 passes for 217 yards and an interception while rushing for 72 yards and a TD on eight carries.
Alouette fans wanted to see Manziel play in last week’s game—even chanting his name–making then-starter Vernon Adams Jr. very upset.
The game is set to air on ESPN2 at 7:30 P.M. ET in the United States.
