The MLB trade deadline is still weeks away, but the Cubs are taking the suspense out of things by making their biggest move of the year early. Chicago has been in desperate need of solid pitching, and it looks like they finally found some.

The team took to Twitter out of absolutely nowhere to announce that they have acquired star pitcher Jose Quintana from the Cubs in return for a boatload of prospects, including top prospects Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease.

The White Sox had a high asking price for their veteran left-hander and the Cubs had the pieces and a need to make the deal. Will this start the Cubs turnaround? At 43-45 and 5.5 games behind the Brewers for first place in the NL Central, this could swing the momentum their way as we are about to kick off the de facto second half of the baseball season.

For the White Sox, it gives them even more talent to add to their farm system. After this deal, the “other” Chicago team has 7 of the Top 100 prospects in all of baseball.
