The Detroit Tigers are taking precautionary measures, which is the right thing to do with their 32 year-old starting pitcher. Verlander has a triceps strain, and the Tigers thought he could be available for their game on Sunday, however they made his first career DL stint retroactive to March 29th making him unavailable for this weekend.

After a bullpen session on Tuesday that did not go well, it caused him to miss a minor league start the next day, putting his season debut in jeopardy. While not considered serious, Verlander is looking to rebound from a rough 2014 season that saw his ERA rise to 4.54, his highest since 2008, and his lowest number of strikeouts (159), since his rookie year in 2006.

If the Tigers can get a healthy Verlander to return to even half of what he was, they are capable of winning the AL pennant with a dangerous offense and solid rotation. Tigers fans are hoping Kate Upton doesn’t get in the way….
