Katie Cassidy Returns to Arrow for Its 6th Season
Arrow may just be saved from its low ratings after all. But in all seriousness, it was just announced via Entertainment Weekly that Katie Cassidy is coming back for the remaining 2 episodes of the 5th season and will officially return as a series regular for the 6th season of CW’s Arrow. She will be reprising her role as the Earth-2 reincarnation of her original character, Laurel Lance who was killed off at the end of Arrow’s 4th season. With this news comes a multitude of potential the writers have to redeem themselves for the backlash received after killing Cassidy’s original character on the show.
Now the last time we saw Black Siren, Laurel Lance’s Earth-2 doppelgänger, was earlier this season in an episode, titled “Who Are You?”, which sadly ended with Black Siren being locked up in an A.R.G.U.S facility with just the slim hope that she’d appear on the show again. But at the end of the episode, that hope seemed to fade as the new Black Canary, Dinah Drake (played by Juliana Harkavy) was introduced into the show.
To be completely honest, I haven’t actually watched the show all the much since the death of the original Laurel Lance because quite frankly, I found the writers’ decision to kill her off to be appalling and disrespectful to someone who fell in love with the character of Laurel Lance. Especially after they replaced her with Dinah Drake, which to me is a little too big of a stretch for someone to essentially have too much in common to the dearly departed, Laurel Lance. But given the news of Katie Cassidy’s return, I am hopeful that the writers will finally give both the actress and the character the story she deserves.
