This past NBA draft, there was a lot of solid young talent selected. It made the race for Rookie of the Year a fairly interesting one.

As this season has progressed there have been three main names that would be considered for this honor: Jahlil Okafor, Kristaps Porzingis, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Okafor has taken a backseat thought in this race because of his team and off the court issues.

That leaves Towns and Porzingis. They have both been huge contributors to their teams as young players.

However, Towns has been pulling away from Porzingis in this race. Barring any utter meltdown by him or a crazy finish by another rookie, the Rookie of the Year for this season.

Towns has played in all 60 games this season. He is averaging 17.4 points and 10.3 rebounds. He has 34 double-doubles thus far. That puts him in a five-way tie for third in the league. The names that are with him or above him? Andre Drummond, Russell Westbrook, John Wall, Pau Gasol, DeMarcus Cousins, and DeAndre Jordan.

Karl Anthony Towns also plays fewer minutes than all of the players listed there.

Towns put together quite the numbers in February. He averaged 21 points and almost 12 rebounds. The Timberwolves had 11 games, and he registered double-doubles in nine of those.

After Towns wins the Rookie of the Year award, it is only a question of time until he is an All-Star in the league.
