Kentucky Native to Compete in Food Network Star
I recently found out my friend and the 2016 winner of Food Network’s Holiday Baking Championship, Jason Smith was competing again. This time for Food Network Star, which will air June the 4th at 9/8 Central. The competition will be judged by Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis. I reached out to Jason for an interview. He happily obliged.
Q: Let me start off by congratulating you for becoming a contestant on Food Network Star.
Jason: Lord honey, Jamie. Thanks, Jamie.
Q: Could you tell us a little bit about the show?
Jason: Yes, yes I can. Food Network Star premieres June 4th 9/8 c. It’s a great show. It’s the most watched, exciting, and amazingly engaging show on Food Network. Bobby and Giada challenge each contestant on the show to really put our skills to the limits. We not only show off our culinary skills, but our speaking on camera and presentation skills as well. After all, they are hunting for the next Food Network Star.
You may have to take a food item you haven’t worked with before or never seen before and have to turn it into a delicious, outstanding meal that fits a culinary point of view. If you ain’t never watched Food Network Star, set your DVR, alarm clocks, calendars and tell someone to remind you. Cause you won’t want to miss it.
Q: From what I’ve read you will be showing off other culinary skills besides your baking, am I right?
Jason: You would be correct. Everyone saw me demonstrate my baking skills on HBC, but what most don’t know about me is that I am a savory cook as well. The best of both worlds. I enjoy all kinds of cooking. I love being in the kitchen and coming up with new recipes. I love tasty, beautiful, and easy to prepare meals. I also have a passion for teaching others.
Q: Will you venture out of your comfort zone?
Jason: You might see me venture some. I have a lot of comfort zones. All I can say is make sure and watch.
Q: You must have been a little nervous being judged by Bobby and Giada. Did you do anything to calm your nerves?
Jason: Lord, honey. Bobby and Giada are wonderful, smart, know their skills and are down to earth kinda people. Yes, it’s a little nerve-racking. I have a little thing I say and do before I go on stage. It was taught to me by a great, great friend a long time ago. I look up at the ceiling and say “Looking good, feeling good. ‘Ought to be in Hollywood. Thank you, Lord, for everything”. It works for me.
Q: Last time I interviewed you, you said you wanted to start a program for disadvantaged kids. You wanted them to be able to try different foods from all over the world. How is that coming along?
Jason: I always wanted to start that program, but it’s a long process that takes time. I have it in my five-year plan.
Q: Do you think you will open your own restaurant or catering business? Because your cakes and food that you post on facebook look decadent. I wish I could hire you for an event.
Jason: Sweet baby Jesus. I ain’t sure what the future holds. I would be honored to do an event for you. I do catering, cakes, and desserts for events.
Q: Thank you for your time, Jason. Good luck! I’m sure I will be speaking with you again soon.
Jason: It was my pleasure to talk to you again. As I always say, “Lord, honey have a great, great day. Get in that kitchen cook up something and make memories”. #Lordhoney #countryblingcook #memories #sweetness.
Be sure to watch Jason compete on Food Network Star on June 4th.
