Kevin Durant’s comments bring hope for Thunder
Recently, Kevin Durant made some comments about the Thunder and Oklahoma City that has to make fans feel a little relieved. There aren’t too many professional sports players in this world that want to play their entire career for one team, but Durant might join the ranks of Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Derek Jeter. The city of Oklahoma City and all Thunder fans around the globe are hoping that he sticks to his word, especially since he is the franchise.
Kevin Durant was recently interviewed, and his comments make it seem as if he has already made his decision about where he will play in the future.
This is from Royce Young of ESPN.com:
“I love it here, man. I love my teammates, I love the city, I don’t really think about anywhere else,” Durant told Revolt TV in a recent interview. “I hear it all the time, don’t get me wrong, and once you hear it you’re kind of like [looks up, thinking]. But for me, I love staying in the moment, and I’m one of those guys that would love to stick it out with one team my whole career.
“Kobe [Bryant], Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki type. That’s awesome,” he said. “But you never know what the future holds sometimes and how teams may feel about you after a while, but I love it here and I would love to get my jersey retired here.”
If you analyze this statement made by Durant, it seems like he plans on sticking around Oklahoma City longer than when his contract expires, after the 2015-2016 season. It is no secret that he would be a coveted addition for any franchise in the National Basketball Association, but there seems to be a “one team for life” mentality circling in Durant’s mind, which should scare these other possible suitors of his services.
Durant has a better chance of winning a championship with the Thunder than he does with a team like Washington, or many others. My guess is that he might test free agency and see what the offers look like, and then re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
After all, Kevin Durant seems like he is a man of his word. He also knows that there aren’t many rosters that are as loaded as the Thunder’s is.
