Knicks shock fans, take Kristaps Porzingis with 4th pick
The New York Knicks finished last season 17-65, 32 games out of first. They also finished the year without much talent on their roster. Carmelo Anthony and a bunch of low salary, very average NBA players. Thursday night they started adding talent by drafting 7’2″ Kristaps Porzingis from Latvia and shocked their fans.
This was a shock to the Knicks fans who expected to get Emmanuel Mudiay, who was available. They also passed on Justise Winslow who was projected to be a top five pick. The Knicks went into the night with Mudiay high on their list. They also liked Frank Kaminski a lot. I think they were prepared to take the best available player, and Phil Jackson obviously thinks that guy is Kristaps Porzingis.
Porzingis is only 19-years-old so he will be a project. But he is the type of player that is well worth waiting on. You can’t teach 7’2″. The question is will the Knicks be patient with him, or will they trade him. After Phil Jackson claimed he should have got consideration for GM of the year last week, all eyes are on him. Does he think that Kristaps Porzingis could be the Knicks next Patrick Ewing?
