Kris Bryant is back with the Cubs
Cubs fans, rejoice! Kris Bryant has finally been called up to the majors, and will start at third base in today’s game against the San Diego Padres. He is also batting in the cleanup spot of the order, and he should have plenty of chances to make an instant impact with the way the Cubs have been playing in 2015. Many people anticipated that today would be the day for Kris Bryant to be called up, as it was the first day that he could be and provide the Chicago Cubs an added year of eligibility.
I got the chance to watch him play in Spring Training, and this kid can hit. He seems to see the ball well, and he was raking the ball before being sent to minor league camp. Everyone knew that Bryant would most likely start at Triple-A Iowa, as this was a business decision made by the Cubs to gain an extra year of eligibility. It was also no surprise when news broke yesterday that he was being called up today and set to make his first start of the season for Chicago.
In Spring training, Kris Bryant had an impressive stat line that should have placed him on the Opening Day roster. He hit .425/.477/1.175 with nine home runs, 15 RBI, and 14 runs scored. Knowing that he would most likely be sent to minor league camp, Bryant kept a positive attitude and hit .321/.364/.679 with three home runs, 10 RBI, and seven runs scored. He closed out his minor league stint with a three-run homer last night, which is only fitting with how he has hit the ball in 2015.
I’m looking forward to watching Kris Bryant play this season, and I expect him to play well while providing the Cubs with a solid bat in the No. 4 slot in the batting order. His defense can be suspect at times, but his bat should keep him on the Cubs roster for the rest of the 2015 season. Cubs fans are hoping that he can lead them to the promised land and help them forget all about the goat and Steve Bartman.
