Kyle Lauletta Draft Profile

Kyle Lauletta draft profile

Strengths:

  • Leadership qualities
  • Production saw major spike over the last two seasons
  • Has experience from shotgun, pistol and under center
  • Footwork is smooth in play-action and setup
  • Uses eyes to move linebackers out of his passing lanes on slants and curls
  • Gets it out early on timing throws
  • Willing to let route combinations progress while climbing and sliding away from heat
  • Able to throw accurately to intermediate targets on the move

Analysis: Kyle Lauletta was not well-known during the college football season in terms of NFL Draft potential, but he had a fantastic Senior Bowl week and continued to increase his draft stock this offseason. He improved each season during his time at Richmond and his stat increase was evident. Lauletta is considered an accurate quarterback, with solid ball placement. He played in every formation at Richmond, shotgun/pistol and under center. His mechanics are the best part of his game–footwork is on point and is smooth in his drop-back. He understands timing patterns and will unleash the ball before his receiver has made his break. Anticipation is solid. Teammates and coaches lauded Kyle Lauletta for his leadership qualities. Knows how to move linebackers off with his eyes.

Weaknesses:

  • Arm strength is weak
  • Can’t make all the NFL throws
  • Uses excessive trajectory to get additional distance on deep throws
  • Feet start dancing nervously when his internal clock goes off
  • Will drop eyes and start looking for an exit strategy
  • Perception of pressure can affect him
  • Throws to double teamed receivers often on tape
  • May not have the mobility to be effective scrambler on next level

Analysis: Kyle Lauletta has decent accuracy and mechanics to work with, but his lack of NFL arm strength will limit the number of teams who are willing to consider him. Lauletta’s interceptions come due to arm issues rather than decision-making and that may not be correctable in the pros due to the increase in play speed that he will see in NFL secondaries. Despite his decent athleticism, Lauletta is not a mobile QB and could struggle to escape pressure at the next level. He gets happy feet in the pocket and will take his off his targets downfield, looking for an escape route. His deep ball goes a mile in the air in order for Lauletta to hit his target.

Final Thoughts on Kyle Lauletta: I wish Lauletta had a stronger arm–he has a lot of qualities you look for in an NFL QB: Accuracy, mechanics, leadership, progressions. But his arm is not NFL caliber and that will end up hurting his potential to succeed at the next level.
