Analysis: Kyler Murray has been the talk of the draft and is in play for the No.1 overall selection. He lit the world on fire last year, his only full season as a starting quarterback in college–he ranked in the top five nationally in passing efficiency (199.2), passing yardage (4,361), passing touchdowns (42, against just seven interceptions), and rushing yardage by a quarterback (123-1,001-7.3, 12 TD). He became the second quarterback in FBS history (Deshaun Watson, 2015) to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards. The numbers jump off the charts no doubt, but if you look at his A&M tape, it’s like a different person was on the field. Sure, he could have progressed and developed into that type of player–or maybe he is a system QB? His size is the biggest negative in his game–but not to me. Size, while important is not a necessity to succeed at the next level. I am more worried about his ability to translate to specific NFL offenses. Teams drafting him need to have the right coordinator and must be committed to framing their offense specifically to Murray’s strengths and weaknesses, which could require additional roster re-configuration. He has the talent and arm to succeed in the NFL, but part of me wonders if baseball would have been the better path?

Size: 5’10 207lbs

Draft Rank: No.3 QB

NFL Comparison: John Manziel (without the off-field issues)

Draft Projection: Round 1
