Kyzir White Draft Profile

Kyzir White draft profile

Strengths:

  • Team captain and true team leader
  • Forceful hitter
  • Quick to diagnose
  • Gift wrapped, NFL-ready frame with good length and well-distributed musculation
  • Very physical with tight ends in man coverage
  • Absolutely dynamic as a blitzer who looks to leave a mark on the quarterback
  • Has movement, size, and hands making it hard to finesse throws over him without risking a turnover
  • Comes from athletic family that is highly supportive
  • Supports run along the edge and in contain
  • Versatile

Analysis: Kyzir White comes from a family of football players who all played at WVU–his brother Kevin is currently a member of the Chicago Bears and his other brother, Ka’Raun is still enrolled with the Mountaineers. When talking with scouts about Kyzir, the first thing that is always mentioned is his leadership abilities. He was a former captain at West Virginia and holds players accountable on the field and in the locker room. He is a powerful hitter who seeks out contact. He reads the quarterback and diagnoses the play quickly. He has the size and strength to play in the NFL from day one. He affects the game in many ways: he can blitz off the edge with the best of them, but he is also dynamic in coverage manning up receivers, backs and tight ends, sticking with them throughout their route. His versatility also allows him to play the ‘rover’ role which is becoming more popular in the NFL these days. In that ‘rover’ role, White can line up closer to the line of scrimmage (linebacker depth) and help support the run, something he does very well.

Weaknesses:

  • Average play speed
  • Lacks fluid change of direction
  • Lacks explosiveness
  • Average athletically
  • Could see inconsistencies as open-field tackler
  • Needs to get stronger and better with his hands
  • Could take time to adjust to more weight and a more physical role
  • Has man coverage limitations that may need to be managed according to the matchup

Analysis: Kyzir White may lack the explosiveness you look for in a high-end prospect, but he makes up for it with his other elite traits. He is not gifted athletically like his brother Kevin and will need to get stronger to handle all the responsibilities of an NFL safety. Scouts have questioned his ability to handle the additional weight he will need to add. Personally, I do not believe it will be a huge hangup–Kyzir is a football player through and through. In the open field, White may struggle bringing down ball carriers consistently. Don’t ask him to cover speedy slot receivers—he will be relegated to backs and tight ends.
