Legends of Tomorrow ‘Doomworld’ Review and Recap
In Legends of Tomorrow’s penultimate episode we got everything that Flashpoint should have been, a completely different universe were everything is worse and the characters we’ve grown to love are almost completely different people, spoilers for Legends of Tomorrow from this point on.
This episode started off with a really surprising opening, we get a vigilante version of Felicity Smoak as apparently the only hero left in this version of the timeline, I assumed she was going to be around for the whole episode and be crucial to helping the Legends regain their memories and abilities but nope, she was dead by the two-minute mark, killed by Sara. I was interested in seeing this version of Felicity and how she was with the Legends but I think I liked her getting killed right off the bat more, it showed that this version of the timeline is completely different and that they really have no boundaries on what could happen.
On another point of having no boundaries, how crazy was it seeing all of our heroes masks in Damien Darhk’s display case? I find it kind of weird that Eobard would allow Damien to keep Barry’s cowl but still, that was a dark but welcome moment. I was kind of disappointed that it turned out that Mick really had turned bad and joined the Legion because he wanted to, I really hoped that he joined up so that he would’ve been the only one in the new timeline who could reverse it but again, nope, he just hated the Legends for what they did to him and he wanted some old-fashioned bank robberies with Snart.
It was great that the one person who was able to tell that the new timeline was wrong was the new version of Nate. The scene where he bursts into STAR labs looking for Eobard was identical to when he burst into Oliver’s office at the start of the season and I loved it, he is a time detective after all. Mick turning against Snart in order to save Nate was a nice moment and shows that even though the Legends haven’t exactly trusted him, he still cares about them.
Mick and Nate get to this new janitor-version of Ray and they use his new ray (pun intended) gun to start giving the team back their memories. I loved how when everyone regained their memories, their first reaction was to punch Mick and it’s exactly what they probably should have done, I mean the guy did betray the whole team and create a reality were they are all just idiots working for the Legion.
The ending battle of the Legion vs the Legends vs Eobard was actually really cool and fun, I loved Eobard getting hit with the Spear and swung across the room (he probably should have seen it coming), then Nate and Damien going to high five immediately afterward could be one of my favorite moments in this show yet, it was unexpected and worked so well. Mick and Snart’s talk at the end of the fight went into pretty dark territory and got kind of emotional but it ended even worse as Snart killed Amaya, that was really unexpected and it took me a second to get my head around it, I’m assuming she’ll be back when they fix the timeline but still.
Of course I have to mention Rip, he was one of the most radically changed but he was still the original version of himself, he had just given up on everything now that the Legion had won and he now spends his days baking and drinking, classic Rip. The twist that the Waverider was actually shrunken down and was now on display on Eobard’s desk was a nice twist, I actually went back and re watched the episode to see if the ship was there the whole time and it was, props to the writers for that little extra touch.
8.9/10 Legends showed us a different, darker world in an eventful episode.
