Leonard Fournette NFL Draft Profile
Size: 6’1 235 lbs
- Keeps feet moving
- Punishing runner
- Decent speed [for size]
Analysis: Leonard Fournette is a full-grown man who can step in day one and be a teams three-down workhorse back. He’s built like a linebacker, but has the speed to outrun them. He has powerful hips and thighs shake defenders right off. Tacklers better bring full force and technique. Always the hammer and never the nail. Violent finisher looking to intimidate run-support safeties with crushing blows behind lower pads. He has the speed to get to the edge and succeed in off-tackle or outside zone runs. He might not be as versatile as Dalvin Cook, who is my No.1 back but there is no doubt he can have a long career, even for a RB in today’s NFL.
- Injury history
- Pass protection
- Route Running
Analysis: Leonard Fournette won’t make many defenders miss if they have him one-on-one in the open field. He would rather lower his shoulder and plow through defenders, rather than throwing an agile move to shake him off. He lacks looseness of hips to jump-cut from gap to gap, which shows me he is yet to develop the patience as a runner that helps you succeed in the NFL. Fournette would rather make his own holes than wait to find one. This will need to change at the next level. His injury history is a slight concern, he missed a few games this past season with an ankle injury. He’s downright ugly to watch in pass-protection, throwing half-hearted, grazing shoulder as chip blocker. Pass protection and routes need extensive work.
