LiAngelo Ball is among three freshmen players on the UCLA basketball team that were arrested early Tuesday morning in Shanghai. Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hill were all arrested for shoplifting after an investigation involving all players from UCLA, and Georgia Tech.

After some time, all Georgia Tech players were released. This is good news during a time when the Georgia Tech program couldn’t afford more bad news. Recent reports have tied a Josh Pastner associate to giving improper benefits to Georgia Tech athletes. Read that story here.

The reported shoplifting incident happened at a Louis Vuitton store next to the team’s hotel in Shanghai. At this time, the only known arrests in the theft incident were Ball, Riley, and Hill. UCLA did release a statement saying they were aware of the incident and fully cooperating with local authorities.

It is unknown what punishment might be handed down to the freshmen basketball players involved. It is quite possible that Lonzo Ball’s younger brother, LiAngelo, may be delayed starting his Bruins career as possible suspensions loom ahead of their season opener against Georgia Tech on Friday.

The Bruins enter the season ranked No. 21 in the AP Poll, and No. 18 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
