When the Dallas Mavericks hosted the Portland Trailblazers on Tuesday night, it was rookie Luka Doncic who sealed the win for the young Mavs team. After nailing a 26-foot three pointer off the assist from Dennis Smith Jr., the Mavs extended their lead to nine, leading 108-99 with a minute remaining in the 4th quarter. After a jump ball between Wesley Matthews and Damian Lillard, Doncic recovered the ball and threw a full-court dime to Smith Jr. for an easy dunk for the final nail in the coffin.

In all, Doncic finished the contest with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists, along with knocking down 2 of his 4 attempts from downtown, once again leading the young Mavs team to another surprising win over the Trailblazers, as well as overtaking the 7th seed from Lillard’s team.

Through a fourth of the season, rookie Doncic has fared well against his fellow rookie mates as he leads all rookies in scoring (18.6 PPG), ranks fourth in rebounds grabbed (6.6 RPG), second amongst rookies in assist per game (4.2), fifth in 3P% (38.6%) and leads all rookies in minutes per game (33.1).

As previously stated, the Mavs have leapfrogged the Trailblazers for the 7th seed, and are now 12-10 in the fierce Western Conference, including 10-2 at home where Doncic clearly enjoys to play as he is averaging 19.6 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 4.7 APG in front of the home crowd.
