mahershala ali true detective

It was announced last night that Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali (Luke Cage, Moonlight) has been confirmed to star in the upcoming third season of HBO’s True Detective.

News broke earlier this month that Ali was in talks with the network but the series hadn’t even been green lit for a third season. We can now confirm that it is happening. This is exciting since the second season was a letdown. The show started out so great in season one with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and then season two seemed rushed and the story was disappointing.

Not much is known about season three yet, but the first episode is being written by True Detective head writer Nic Pizzolatto and David Milch (Deadwood). HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys revealed that he has read five scripts and, “They are terrific. … I was very impressed and excited. We are talking to directors, and when we have a director we want to hire, it will be a go.”

Hopefully, they can get season one director Cary Fukunaga back to work his magic! HBO took credit for the disappointing second season saying they rushed Pizzolatto. Let’s not make the same mistake this time, guys!

Season three is already looking better and it’s not even here yet. No word on a premiere date yet. Stay tuned…
