Man Crush Monday: Antonio Brown
The final weekend of the NFL regular season featured more than a few meaningless games, but some match ups had a lot at stake. The Pittsburgh Steelers needed a win and a Jets loss in order to make it into the postseason, and this week’s Man Crush Monday Antonio Brown did his part. With 13 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown, Brown picked up the slack from a suffering running game that lost DeAngelo Williams early with an ankle injury. He did have one fumble, but I think we can give him a pass on that. Oh, and the Buffalo Bills did their part by beating the Jets.
Brown’s performance capped off a season that saw him catch 136 passes for 1,834 yards and 10 touchdowns. Only Julio Jones, who also had a big day yesterday, finished the season with more yards with 1,871. This is the third season in a row that Brown has been in triple digits for receptions, and although his touchdowns may have dipped a bit it is easy to see how he helps his team win. Brown along with help from Ben Roethlisberger of course, moves the chains.
In a season that has seen Pittsburgh’s defense struggle a bit, their offense had to be explosive with games on the line. When all else fails, they know they can hurl the ball downfield with Brown. They have lost some close games this year, including two to division rival Baltimore, but that hasn’t been because of Brown. It is safe to say that the Steelers would not be a playoff team without him. At 27 years old, the former 6th round pick from Central Michigan still has a lot of football left in him and these stats are becoming the norm for #84.
