This weekend the NBA playoffs saw a couple of completed sweeps, which in the first round isn’t a big surprise. It also saw a couple of performances from a rising star on a team that refuses to go away. He also continues to make my Suns look worse and worse for trading him after half a season. This weekend’s Man Crush Monday goes to Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas.

On Friday during Game 3 of the series between the Celtics and Hawks, Thomas scored 42 points in 37 minutes. On Sunday he followed that up with 28 points in an overtime win to even the series at two apiece. He also had six assists, four rebounds, a steal and two blocks. Yes, a 5’9 guard got two blocks. It is only fair to mention that Marcus Smart and Jonas Jerebko also had great games yesterday to help Thomas and the rest of the team get the Game 4 win. There is no doubt about it though, this teams energy flows through Isaiah Thomas.

Thomas has averaged 22.2 points a game this season, along with 6.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds. Teams seem to underestimate him because of his size, but he has proved them wrong with a breakout season that saw him selected to his first All-Star game appearance. He may have some flaws on the defensive end, but so have quite a few great point guards in this game. Steve Nash and John Stockton were not known for their defense either. Thomas’ main weapon is his ability to score in explosive bursts, and that will keep him in this league for a long time. If I may be so bold as to gender swap a famous Shakespeare quote to describe him, “though he be but little, he is fierce.”
