Klay Thompson

In a big weekend for the NCAA tournament, it was easy to look at last week’s MCM and watch him once again take over a game in route to advancing Oklahoma to the Final Four. Buddy Hield deserved a shot at a second straight week of MCM recognition, but another shooter at the next level would make the cut. Two 40 point games back to back would prove to be the difference maker. This week’s Man Crush Monday is Golden State’s Klay Thompson.

For the first time in his career Thompson recorded back to back 40 point games over the weekend against Dallas and Philadelphia. Against the Mavericks he shot 13-for-25 from the field and 15-for-27 against the lowly Sixers last night, including seven three pointers. With these victories the Warriors have stayed on a 73-win pace. It’s no surprise that Draymond Green had his 12th triple double of the season in that game. As we discussed when Green was an MCM, dishing out assists to that starting backcourt has led to plenty of triple doubles for him. Thompson only had one assist in the two games combined but it’s not as if he’s the point guard anyway, and when you’re shooting that good no one can complain.

The Warriors will need Klay Thompson to play at the top of his game if they want to break that coveted record of 72 wins. With other players like Marreese Speights stepping up off the bench and Green continuing the year he’s having, Thompson and Steph Curry can keep doing what they do best. Thompson is also out to top Curry’s 286 three pointers he made last year, it will be fun to watch the rest of the way and see if he can do it.
