Kobe Bryant

There have not been many reasons for me to cheer for Kobe Bryant aside from the Olympic teams he was on. When it comes to these players representing my Country I have always put aside rivalry. As a Suns fan however, that was usually where it ended for me, and I am sure for many others. The playoff battles that I have witnessed over the years involving Kobe’s Lakers and my team were epic to say the least, and for that one has to have a certain degree of respect for one of the game’s greatest players. Even though it was in a losing effort, Kobe Bryant is this week’s Man Crush Monday.

In a 130-110 loss to the Houston Rockets yesterday, Bryant had 35 points in 27 minutes in what will be his third to last game before retiring. He was 10 for 22 from the field and a perfect 11 for 11 from the free throw line. The Lakers dropped to 16-64 on the season but at this point it only helps their chances of holding onto their lottery pick. James Harden scored 40 points for the Rockets in their victory which still keeps their playoff hopes alive, but all eyes were on Kobe.

The Black Mamba is close to wrapping up a 20 year career that has yielded 5 championship trophies, 2 Olympic gold medals and 1 MVP. Some think he deserved more MVP’s and maybe he did, but I am sure he will take the 5 rings over any more of the latter. When it is all said and done, the 19 time All-Star from Lower Merion High School in Philadelphia will go down as probably the second best player of all time next to that guy Michael Jordan. It will be fun to see what Bryant decides to do next with his life, maybe one day we will see him become general manager of the Lakers.
