Marcus Stroman to return from DL and start Saturday
The return of Marcus Stroman to the Blue Jays active roster is closing in. Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports that Stroman will be activated from the disabled list in time for Saturday’s game against the Angels.
Stroman was expected to pitch in his second rehab assignment on Monday at Double-A New Hampshire, but the game was scratched due to rain. Instead, Stroman pitched a simulated game to build up his arm strength and shake the rust off.
Toronto would have liked Stroman to pitch in another live game before returning, but his simulated game must have given the Jays confidence to bring him up this weekend.
It has been a trying season for the once thought of ace of the Jays staff–he has compiled a 7.71 ERA and 1.71 WHIP across 37.1 IP before landing on the DL with shoulder soreness.
I expect better numbers when he returns, but to expect ace-type numbers would be far-fetched given his recent lack of success.
