Marshall to play Cincinnati in 2017, 2019
Marshall Athletic Director, Mike Hamrick, announced Thursday afternoon that the Herd has established a new series with the University of Cincinnati of the American Athletic Conference . The Herd will travel to Cincy in 2017 and host the Bobcats at the Joan in 2019. This will renew the series between the two teams, the last game being played in 2008, where the Herd suffered a 33-10 loss at home. Marshall is 3-8-1 all time against the Bobcats, with their last win coming in 2000 in the Motor City Bowl.
This is great news for the Herd fans who have had to put up with the constant “Marshall plays nobody” banter. Cincinnati is currently sitting at 3-3 on their 2015 season, but they’ve gone 9-4 each of the previous two years in the AAC.
Not only will this be a stronger-looking game for Marshall, it’s also close to home. Both teams should be able to travel well to the opposing stadium. Cincinnati is roughly 2-3 hours away from Huntington, giving the Herd fans, known well for traveling, a great opportunity to support their team.
