  • Instinctive with eyes that don’t panic

  • Decent power

Analysis: Martinas Rankin and Isaiah Wynn are the two most versatile offensive lineman in this year’s draft. Rankin offers five position versatility and center might be his best spot as a pro. His football IQ is off the charts and you notice that right away the way he commands the offensive front. He understands the game and is instinctive noticing twists and stunts that are oncoming. His angles are ideal, getting up to the second level and walling off potential defenders before the back breaks through the line. He is not lacking upper body strength and his punch is lethal, knocking rushers off their balance en route to the quarterback. His feet are always active and moving.

Weaknesses:

  • Base narrows as slide progresses
  • Loses leverage battles
  • Lacks initial lateral quickness
  • Hand placement runs wide and high
  • Struggles to latch and ride in pass pro with defenders displacing his hands
  • Struggles against edge speed

Analysis: As a left tackle, Martinas Rankin will struggle with edge speed and as a right tackle he may have issues as a run blocker handling the power he will face. While he offers tackle flexibility and may get an early look at right tackle, his best position might be at center where his instincts and intelligence will stand out. The further Martinas Rankin kicks inside the better he will be. His hand placement is one of the reasons he should kick inside in the NFL–his hands tend to run wide and high. This will result in two scenarios, he gets called for holding a lot or the defender will swiftly knock his hands off and charge towards the ball. On tape, he struggled when facing edge rushers with great speed–he doesn’t get set and back far enough in time.
