Masters Day 1 Recap
The first day of The Masters is in the books.
It was a beautiful mid-to-upper 70 degree temperature day with relatively calm winds.
Even in those beautiful conditions, a lot of the day saw groups of 6,7,8, or even 9 guys at the top of the leaderboard.
There were not many birdies to be found on the front nine of the course. Many golfers played it safe on those holes, just looking to get to the better scoring opportunities at the back nine.
Much of the day, -3 was good enough to have you on top of the leaderboard.
There are currently five players at that score. They are tied for sixth.
The leaders are Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau. Both golfers are ranked top-10 in the World.
Koepka is possibly one of the more underrated golfers currently, especially when it comes to Majors. He has won three majors in the last two years. That includes the U.S. Open back-to-back and the PGA Championship last year. He has also steadily improved his finishes at Augusta. This is his fourth Masters. He has finished 33rd, 21st, and 11th. That would put him on pace to claim a victory at Augusta this year.
DeChambeau is on his third year as a pro. If you recall, he became a pro after finishing 21st in The Masters in 2016 as an amateur. Last year, he finished 38th.
The Top Five on the leaderboard are:
T1. Bryson DeChambeau -1
T1. Brooks Koepka -1
3. Phil Mickelson -5masters
T4. Dustin Johnson -4
T4. Ian Poulter -4
Other notable players and positions:
T11. Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Tiger Woods -2
T44. Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas +1
T63. Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth +3
