Matt Mitrione vs Ryan Bader

Bellator MMA announced yesterday that the first semi-final bout of its famous Heavyweight Grand Prix is officially on as Matt Mitrione (13-5) will be taking on current Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion Ryan Bader (25-5) on October 12th.

The winner will go on to face the winner of Chael Sonnen vs Fedor Emelianenko.

Both fighters were able to advance into the semi-final round of the tournament with very impressive and yet two completely opposite performances. Mitrione took 2-out-of-3 rounds vs Roy Nelson using his reach and landing big punches. Mitrione showed he needs to work heavily in this training camp on his take-down defense. On the plus side Mitrione is undefeated with a 4-0 record during his run with Bellator MMA and he defeated his first three opponents via knockout including Fedor.

Like Mitrione, Ryan Bader is undefeated during his Bellator MMA stint. Known around the sport as one of the best wrestlers, but he is a wrestler that can also pack a punch as he only needed 15 seconds to finish Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal.

It is safe to say this will be one heck of a fight and I implore that every MMA fan should circle this one on their calendar.
