Matt Smith Joins ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’
It was announced earlier today that Matt Smith (Doctor Who, Netflix’s The Crown) will be joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX. The film is currently filming in the U.K. and is set to release on December 20th, 2019. No word yet on the role he’ll play, but it’s said by multiple outlets that it will be a key role.
Smith will join fellow Star Wars newbies Keri Russell (The Americans) and Naomi Ackie (Vera, Lady Macbeth) as well as Richard E. Grant (The Hitman’s Bodyguard, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms), whose characters are still unnamed. Earlier this week it was also announced that Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the Rings, Lost) will be joining the cast as well. Monaghan and Abrams worked together on the TV series Lost.
Who do you think Smith and Monaghan will play in Star Wars: Episode IX? Will they be on the side of the Resistance or the First Order?
