MFST’s 2019 Conference Championship Picks
We are down to the final four NFL teams as Conference Championship Week is here. Orlando Torres may have finished in last place during our regular season pick’em segment, but he’s showing up in the postseason only getting one game wrong so far. Our champion this season, Brandon Reid, has struggled to a 3-5 mark and good for last place. Yikes.
Standings after Divisional Round
Orlando Torres: 7-1
Dan Schalk: 5-3
Brandon Reid: 3-5
2019 Conference Championship Picks
Patriots at Chiefs
Dan Schalk: New England Patriots. Patrick Mahomes may be the next great thing to hit the NFL, but he’ll need to sit back and watch at least one more season. Let me ask you one question (the answer will reveal the games winner). Who would you rather have on the sidelines of a big game like this, Bill Belichick or Andy Reid? Patriots win.
Brandon Reid: Kansas City Chiefs. This is one of the most dynamic offenses I have seen in some time. This is also the best QB I have seen in some time. Mahomes should win the NFL MVP and the MLB Cy Young for the throws he makes. This team is not missing a beat with the loss of Kareem Hunt. Forget everything you thought you knew about past Andy Reid Chief’s teams. Patrick Mahomes makes this a different team. He has a skill set that you cannot game plan for. Mahomes and the Chiefs are going to make Brady and Belichick look old this weekend.
Orlando Torres: New England Patriots. I get that Tom Brady is older and this offense may not be as explosive as Kansas City, but each and every year New England finds themselvesin this position. I expect Belichick to do what he always does, and that’s take away Kansas City’s best options.
Rams at Saints
Dan Schalk: New Orleans Saints. This pick is based more on who I want to win, rather than who I think will win. I believe the game is a toss-up, but WhoDat being at home will be the deciding factor.
Brandon Reid: New Orleans Saints. I actually have less confidence in this pick than I do the AFC title game. I think the Rams have been the best NFC team through most of the year. They slipped late, but the playoffs are a different animal. Against anyone else, the two-headed monster running attack would spell trouble, but the Saints are good at stuffing the run. I think the difference in this game will come down to crowd noise and how well young Jared Goff handles it. I would love to see a Chiefs/Saints Super Bowl. I think the Saints squeak this one out, although I would not be shocked if the Rams find a way to bully the Saints out of a Super Bowl appearance.
Orlando Torres: New Orleans Saints. Yeah it’s true that the Saints just survived a divisional game, thanks to Alshon. But after watching that Rams D line demolish Dallas and get to Zeke like nothing, worries me about New Orleans. I don’t think we see a lot of scoring here, but I got the Saints edging it out.
