Minkah Fitzpatrick Draft Profile

Minkah Fitzpatrick draft profile

  • Loves the game
  • Work ethic
  • Versatile
  • Footwork
  • Vision
  • Instincts
  • Solid tackler
  • Great outside blitzer
  • Special teams ace

Analysis: It’s not often a true freshman sees the field at Alabama, but that’s exactly what Minkah Fitzpatrick did. He loves, lives, eats football. Work ethic and competitive nature is off the charts. He is versatile and can line up all over the field. Cornerback, safety, rover, blitzer off the edge–Minkah Fitzpatrick can do it all.¬†Good feet with ability to transition backward and forward smoothly around the field. Gets to top chase speed quickly. Can become rangy safety. Able to stick a foot in ground and drive to the ball. Plays with “ball-man” vision of an off-ball defender in basketball. Has awareness from zone to make loads of plays. Has nine career interceptions and four pick-sixes. Fitzpatrick does not shy away from contact, owning a downhill mentality as a tackler.¬†Dangerous blitzer off the edge. Attacks line of scrimmage from high safety look in run support and welcomes physical challenges. Special teams ace with 22 career coverage tackles.

  • Hip tightness
  • Might not have cover talent to be strictly a CB
  • Patience
  • Comes in too aggressive as a tackler

Analysis: Minkah Fitzpatrick plays with some hip tightness. Scouts question his ability as a pure cover corner, viewing him more as a safety/dime linebacker at the next level. He allows some separation out of breaks. Feet are more quick than explosive when chasing receivers from the top of the route. Still needs to improve his awareness when asked to play deep safety. His downhill mentality we talked about in his strengths can also be a weakness–he has to learn to dial back urgency and play with more patience on the next level. Comes in hot as tackler and will run himself out of position to finish.
