MLS Fantasy Manager 2016 week 22
TOP FORWARD PICKS
Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto F.C., $13.4
Toronto F.C. are one of two teams playing twice this week which means Sebastian Giovinco could have twice the opportunity to come up big for his team. Toronto is playing both matches at home this week which I think bodes well for his chances to start twice and his chances to play amazingly. If he does sit for either match it will probably be the match against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday but I won’t be surprised if he comes off the bench for at least half an hour during that match. He should fare better over the weekend against New England because of the Revolution’s horrible road record and I think he could come away from that match with a brace.
Joao Plata, Real Salt Lake, $9.6
Real Salt Lake are the other team playing twice this week and Joao Plata should benefit the most from these opportunities. The first match in Toronto will be tough for Real Salt Lake but if Plata doesn’t start then I think he’ll see the field if R.S.L. can’t figure out a way to score in the early going. Plata should definitely get the start against the Chicago Fire over the weekend and he’ll take advantage of their horrible road form with at least a goal and an assist. He should also pick up some attacking bonuses against Chicago.
Cyle Larin, Orlando City S.C., $9.6
Cyle Larin has a goal in each of his last three games and I don’t see him slowing down against the floundering Seattle Sounders this weekend. He’s been playing too well to come away from this match with nothing so he should pick up some bonuses from his offensive play if he doesn’t score this week. I doubt he’ll come away without netting something or getting at least an assist but the Seattle defense is like a sieve now and they’re letting goal after goal through. Larin’s weekend should end well.
TOP MIDFIELD PICKS
Ignacio Piatti, Montreal Impact, $11.3
Ignacio Piatti is having another magical year that’s only overshadowed by Giovinco’s importance to the Toronto F.C. attack. The Montreal Impact welcome the lowly Houston Dynamo to town this weekend and that should mean a big match for Piatti. He has a great attack around him that helps pad his numbers by scoring goals off his assists and taking advantage of his passing abilities. He should be able to pick up some attacking or passing bonuses if he doesn’t score the goals himself but I think this game is ripe for his amazing playmaking abilities.
Javier Morales, Real Salt Lake, $10.8
Javier Morales is another player who should take advantage of his double opportunities this week by coming up for his team twice. I don’t foresee Real Salt Lake scoring many goals against Toronto F.C. but Morales will be key to any attack that comes in this match if he’s healthy and on the field. Real Salt Lake should have a much better weekend match against Chicago and Morales will take part in most of the scoring chances in that match, which should be plenty. He’ll also get some defending bonuses against Chicago and possibly a clean sheet bonus because of how lacking the Fire’s attack is.
Jonathan Osorio, Toronto F.C., $7.0
Jonathon Osorio has yet to turn into the player his potential has warranted over the years but he’s still a solid midfielder with the ability to have a great game in the right circumstance. This week should fulfill those circumstances with two home matches during one of his hot periods. The first match against Real Salt Lake will be tougher for Osorio but he’ll still find a way to have a four plus point match. The match against New England on the weekend will turn out better for Osorio with at least an assist and attacking bonus if not an opportunistic goal.
TOP DEFENSIVE PICKS
Drew Moor, Toronto F.C., $7.8
Drew Moor is having one of the best defensive seasons of any back line player in the league. He’s been absolutely fantastic for Toronto since he joined them in the offseason and has helped them keep in the heat of the playoff standings. Moor should have a great shot at two clean sheets this week but I think he’ll only come away with one against New England on the weekend. This isn’t to say he will have a bad match against Real Salt Lake but I don’t think that match will end in a clean sheet. He’ll pick up big defending and passing bonuses in each match.
Aaron Maund, Real Salt Lake, $7.0
Aaron Maund has done well for himself and Real Salt Lake the past few games which I think should continue into this week with both of their matches. Maund will have a tough time on the road in Toronto but he’ll have to make plenty of stops and clearances which should equal up to a couple of extra points. He’ll have an easier time over the weekend against Chicago and a probable clean sheet over a team that has recently lost what little attacking threat they had. He could also pick up some defensive bonuses in the weekend match for a possible 1o-plus-point match.
Axel Sjoberg, Colorado Rapids, $6.1
Axel Sjoberg…again. He’s just having an amazing season and he’s hard to deny when the Rapids play at home. Colorado welcomes the Whitecaps to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park this weekend and they’re staying in a playoff spot by the skin of their teeth. Not many teams have been able to score against the Rapids when they play at home and Sjoberg is a big reason for that. He’ll come away with a defending bonus but it’s probably going to be the points from a clean sheet all the way.
GOALKEEPER PICK OF THE WEEK
Nick Rimando, Real Salt Lake, $6.3
Nick Rimando should start both matches this week and that’s double the opportunity for big games. The first match in Toronto will be a tough one but he’ll pick up bonuses for the amount of saves he’ll have to make and his defending ability. The second match at home against Chicago should end in a clean sheet with the Fire’s horrible road form.
