MLS Fantasy Manager 2016 week 25
I’m not sure why MLS Fantasy Manager 2016 is doing this short round midweek with another on the weekend thing again but here we are. Here’s a shorter than usual rundown for this truncated round where almost half the league is out of action. Be careful how you use your transfers because you’ll have to make changes again on the weekend when I will return with a full column.
TOP FORWARD PICKS
Jozy Altidore, Toronto F.C., $9.5
Cyle Larin, Orlando City S.C., $9.7
Jordan Morris, Seattle Sounders, $8.4
It’s a tough time of the year to predict who coaches will play in midweek matches. Some coaches can’t afford to rest their stars because they need the wins while others need to give their stars playing time they haven’t had due to injuries or being new to rosters. I think Jozy Altidore is a great pick because he is heating up right now and needs the starts to regain his fitness in time for the playoffs. Cyle Larin is too valuable to Orlando City to rest in a game against a conference opponent they need a win against to get into a playoff spot. Jordan Morris is young and he could stay up top while Clint Dempsey gets some rest. Morris has played better than I expected and I think a midweek match against an improved Houston Dynamo could help his numbers
TOP MIDFIELD PICKS
Leah Klafczynski | Dispatch
Nicolas Lodeiro, Seattle Sounders, $11.8
Ethan Finlay, Columbus Crew S.C., $10.7
Sebastian Lletget, Los Angeles Galaxy, $7.8
Nicolas Lodeiro has played only three games for Seattle so needs more time to adjust to his teammates and the league. The Sounders still have a shot at the playoffs but they need to start winning now and I don’t think they can afford to rest him. Ethan Finlay is one of the only players keeping the Crew in the playoff hunt and they’ll need him this weekend against a strong conference opponent. He’ll have a tough time against Philadelphia but I think this match will be high scoring so he’ll have plenty of chances for maximum points. Sebastian Lletget has seen his minutes fall off in the past couple of months and a midweek match is perfect for him to pick up some time on the field while the usual starters get some rest. Lletget will have a solid match against the Chicago Fire even if the Galaxy don’t manage to win this.
TOP DEFENSIVE PICKS
Drew Moor, Toronto F.C., $7.9
Laurent Ciman, Montreal Impact, $8.7
Victor Bernardez, San José Earthquakes, $7.7
I don’t usually pick defensive players in matches I think could be high scoring but Drew Moor is the type of player who can make up for goals with his defending, passing, and attacking bonuses. He’ll have to contribute to the attack in this match if he is going to pick up big points. Laurent Ciman had a tough time last week but I don’t think the Montreal Impact will have another bad home match. This match has a good chance of being low scoring and Ciman is the best defender the Impact has. He’ll pick up passing bonuses, too. Victor Bernardez is having a surprisingly strong year for a team that’s just out of the playoff standings. He’ll have to step up big time at home midweek if the Earthquakes are going to make up ground. He’ll pick up most of his points from a probable clean sheet.
GOALKEEPER PICK OF THE WEEK
David Bingham, San José Earthquakes, $6.1
David Bingham is having a solid year for a team that’s in seventh place. The Earthquakes aren’t winning matches but they’re also not letting in a lot of goals while losing. These type of matches are padding his numbers even if wins aren’t. I think this match will be low scoring if not a clean sheet and Bingham will have to make a bunch of saves which means more points for him.
