MLS Fantasy Manager 2017 week 16
MLS Fantasy Manager Top Picks
TOP FORWARD PICKS
David Villa, New York City F.C., $11.1
David Villa is finding ways to contribute to scoring almost every week for New York City F.C.. New York City F.C. plays at home against the Seattle Sounders this weekend. Seattle has a bad road record this season while New York City has a great home record and I think this will result in a couple of goals for David Villa. He’ll contribute to at least two goals this weekend if he doesn’t score both of them himself. He’s a solid pick for captain on any squad for double points.
Hector Villalba, Atlanta United F.C., $9.9
Hector Villalba is a streaky forward and this season he has had his hot and cold moments. Villalba had a cold spell the past couple of games and I think he’s ready to heat up again at home against the Columbus Crew. I think Atlanta as a team will heat up this week and come away with a big victory against the Crew who are not that far ahead in the standings.
C.J. Sapong, Philadelphia Union, $8.0
C.J. Sapong is carrying the Philadelphia Union scoring on his back this season. The Union aren’t playing horribly but they’re not playing great either. They can’t seem to take that next step that they’re definitely capable as a team. Sapong is doing his best to help the Union get to where they can make a run up the standings with his scoring and creating. He has some help around him but he is now the most important part of their attack and this week will show that. I see him coming away with a double-digit points total this weekend.
TOP MIDFIELDER PICKS
Miguel Almiron is another streaky player except when he is hot, he’s on fire. Almiron had a cold couple of weeks recently but I think that a match at home against the Columbus Crew will do him some good. He’s an amazing signing for the league that is capable of moments of pure magic and he’s going to have those moments this weekend. I think he’s another good candidate for team captain.
Diego Valeri, Portland Timbers, $10.7
Diego Valeri is going to go down as one of the best players in league history when all is said and done. Valeri is having another amazing season to keep Portland in the hunt for the Supporters’ Shield. Valeri is playing well over the past couple of weeks and I think this week will be the same. The Timbers are on the road against the Colorado Rapids who are usually a tough opponent in their stadium but they’re having a bad year. I think Valeri is going to run all over the Rapids midfield and defense with a double-digit match.
Lee Nguyen, New England Revolution, $10.5
Lee Nguyen is having a great year for a team having such a mediocre season. I think that they’ll eventually fight their way above the playoff line if Nguyen can keep up with the season he is having so far. The New England Revolution have a tough match this weekend against the Chicago Fire but I think it will be an amazing midfield battle that will result in big points for Nguyen. I don’t think he’ll score a goal but offensive bonuses mixed with an assist will get him a double-digit match.
TOP DEFENSIVE PICKS
Ike Opara, Sporting Kansas City, $6.0
Ike Opara and Sporting Kansas City are having a great season as they sit on top of the Western Conference. The Sporting Kansas City defense is one of the main reasons why they’re doing so amazingly and Opara is their best defender right now. He’s one of the best in the league when he is healthy and he hasn’t gone out injured this season so things are looking great. I think that even with a road game that he’ll do well. He could help Sporting Kansas City to a clean sheet but if they don’t I think he will make up for that with offensive help and enough clearances to garner bonuses.
Justin Morrow, Toronto F.C., $6.5
Justin Morrow is a great attacker for a fantasy roster because of how much he gets forward to help with goal scoring. I could see him having a strong defensive match against D.C. United this weekend but I think he’ll get bigger points from offensive bonuses. Morrow scored last week and I doubt that he will score again but an assist isn’t out of the question or passing bonuses. He will also get a clean sheet bonus of Toronto can keep things scoreless.
Alexander Callens, New York City F.C., $4.9
Alexander Callens is a great defensive role player this season for New York City F.C.. He’s not the best defender in the league but he is contributing on both sides of the ball which means the occasional big points week. Callens had an amazing week last round with a goal and I doubt he will do that again but he could make up for it with a clean sheet and passing bonuses.
GOALKEEPER PICK OF THE WEEK
Joe Bendik is doing his best to keep Orlando City S.C. in the playoff hunt with some solid goalkeeping this season. I think he is one of the main reasons why Orlando isn’t lower than where they are now. Bendik has a tough opponent this weekend but I think that means he will have a lot of saves. I don’t think this will be a high scoring match so he won’t take a points hit for multiple goals. He has a good shot at a clean sheet and if that happens then he will have a double-digit match.
