It’s a short column this week for MLS Fantasy Manager due to the international fixture weekend. There are only three games this round and only six teams to pick from.

Fanendo Adi, Portland Timbers, $9.6

Fanendo Adi is off to another great start this season for Portland. He is helping his undefeated squad to the top of the early league table. The Timbers will be missing a key component this weekend but that shouldn’t keep them from having a solid road match in Columbus. The Timbers are better when Adi is better and I think he’ll be great this weekend with multiple goals against a team that still can’t seem to keep it together for more than week. He’s a great pick for fantasy captain this round.

Bradley Wright-Philips, New York Red Bulls, $10.00

Bradley Wright-Phillips continues to be one of the best pure strikers this league has ever helped develop. This weekend will be a tough contest for him to prove his pedigree with him missing a key teammate. Wright-Phillips almost always finds a way during international fixture weekends so I don’t expect him to come up short. New York plays at home against winless Real Salt Lake this weekend and I don’t foresee Salt Lake’s fortune changing. Wright-Phillips could come away with a double-digit match from a goal and assist or other attacking bonuses. Nothing Real Salt Lake has done so far makes me think they can stop him and they won’t.

Diego Valeri, Portland Timbers, $10.3

Diego Valeri is the one steering the ship in the right direction for Portland during their hot start.  He is averaging a double-digit match a week in his first three matches this year. This week will be tough on the road for the Timbers but they’ve played excellently so I doubt they’ll be completely stopped. This has a high possibility of ending up a multiple goal match and that bodes well for Valeri’s chances at another double-digit match. He will contribute to any goal that Portland scores and end the weekend as the highest fantasy points earner.

Diego Fagundez, New England Revolution, $7.0

Diego Fagundez is having a rough start to his year but I think a match against Minnesota United could help his form and his numbers. Fagundez is an inconsistent player but when he is on, he is really on. He is capable of some beautiful soccer in the right circumstances and an expansion defense that is still figuring each other out is the perfect opponent for him. I’m not sure he’ll be the one who notches the goals but he’s definitely going to be the one creating them this weekend. He could have a double-digit match with assists and attacking bonuses. If he gets a goal then it will just sweeten the pot.

Sal Zizzo, New York Red Bulls, $4.7

Sal Zizzo is capable of amazing defense to help keep New York near the top of the Eastern Conference every week. He’s not the best defender in the league, not by a long shot, but he’s one of the better defenders the league has to offer. Zizzo had a great game a couple of weeks ago and a solid match last week so I think he will do fine against Real Salt Lake in his own stadium. Zizzo will have as good a match as the defenders around him especially if the Red Bulls earn the clean sheet. He should still contribute with a couple of points for defending bonuses but I think the bulk of his points will come from a clean sheet.

Andrew Farrell, New England Revolution, $5.5

Andrew Farrell is one of the most underappreciated defenders in the league. He isn’t the fastest and isn’t the greatest passer but he clears crosses, stops shots, and keeps the ball out of his 18-yard box better than a lot of defenders out there. He’s not the type to make a great run but he’ll come up big on a set-piece from time to time. I think he’ll have an easy job stopping the Minnesota attack this weekend. Minnesota isn’t winning matches but they’re scoring goals so they’ll be a dangerous opponent. Farrell will be key for the Revolution of they hope to come away with a clean sheet. If Minnesota manage to score then he’ll make up for it with some defending bonuses.

Jake Gleeson, Portland Timbers, $5.6

Jake Gleeson is one of the players benefiting the most from Portland’s great start. He’s had a couple tough games because the Portland defense wasn’t able to make stops but he has made up for multiple goal matches with enough saves to earn him extra points. I think he’ll get most of his points from another clean sheet this week and if the Timbers defense manages to screw things up again then it won’t be more than one goal.
