Most Talked About Moments from the ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Trailer
When the latest trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi dropped on Monday night, the internet went crazy. The trend lasted well into the night with fans discussing and theorizing all two minutes and thirty-four seconds of the trailer. Director Rian Johnson urged fans not to watch it if they wanted to go into the movie completely clean, before tweeting this after the trailer’s release.
From tweets and theory videos to meta post and fan art on Tumblr, here are the most talked about moments from the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer.
Finn vs. Phasma
Finn fans were worried about the character’s fate after we ended The Force Awakens with the young former trooper in a coma-like state after his fight with Kylo Ren on Starkiller. It didn’t take long for snippets of information to come out about Finn’s fate in episode eight to calm fans nerves. Not only does he recover from his battle with Kylo Ren in TFA, he gets back into the action and faces off with his former boss Captain Phasma who’s played by Gwendoline Christie. Finn played by John Boyega has a new look too. I wonder if he gave Poe his jacket back?
After the trailer came out Boyega tweeted, “If you’ve ever had a crappy boss…You’ll want to see this fight…” In the trailer, we see Finn armed with what looks to be the same weapon used by the trooper who called in a traitor in the last film.
Fans are also excited to finally see Phasma in combat. The character’s self-titled book by Delilah S. Dawson has gotten great reviews and has fans even more excited to see the Captain in action. She looks pretty good for someone who was stuffed in a trash compactor.
Whether to make fun of it or to say how cool it looks, fans have been talking about Kylo Ren’s scar. We all know he took an L against Rey in TFA, but now we’re seeing the outcome of the injuries he got. Some wish the scar was more prominent, but it’s not like anyone is really an expert on how wounds are healed in a galaxy far far away. On top of Kylo’s scar, fans have also been discussing several shots that parallel previous scenes starring Darth Vader. What do you think of Kylo Ren’s scar? Does it look how you imagined it would?
The adorable porgs
The internet loves porgs. When Star Wars first introduced images of the creatures, fans weren’t sure how to feel about them. But, after the trailer featured a very short look at a porg aboard the Millenium Falcon with Chewbacca, they were one of the highlights. There’s already memes and people hoping the little creatures don’t come to any harm during the film. Jimmy Fallon even shared a few of his own porg memes while discussing the trailer this week.
It’s no secret that fans are still heartbroken over the loss of the beloved royal general. When Leia appeared in The Last Jedi trailers, fans got a little emotional. I saw several people say they teared up. In her first appearance in the trailer, it looks like Leia is on her ship while Kylo Ren struggles with the decision of shooting it down. The voice over of Kylo saying, “Let the past die. Kill it if you have to,” certainly doesn’t bode well. We also get a second glimpse of Leia standing near an entry waiting for someone. Is she preparing to reunite with Luke? While the film is bound to make fans emotional, I can’t wait to see what decisions LucasFilm has made regarding Leia’s character.
The Outstretched Hand
The Last Jedi trailer ended in a moment that fans have been speculating about all week. Rey says, “I need someone to show me my place in all of this.” The response is supposedly the gif below, but many think this could be a misdirect.
This moment certainly left fans, those who think the two will team up, those who want them together romantically, and those who want Rey to end Kylo, in somewhat of an uproar. Honorable mentions go to Poe’s mini-speech, Luke in general because we missed him in TFA, and Rey encountering Snoke.
