Must-see TV: Strasburg vs Kershaw
There are not many baseball games in the month of June that are considered “Must-see TV” but any time two elite pitchers in their prime square off, get your popcorn ready. Tonight at 10pm ET it is Strasburg vs Kershaw as the Dodgers (38-33) host the Nationals (43-27) in a potential playoff matchup.
Strasburg is seeking to remain perfect on the season and run his record to 11-0. It won’t be easy, though, as the Dodgers are 13-1 this season when Kershaw starts. The Dodgers south-paw is in the midst of another dominant season, as he leads MLB in ERA (1.58), WHIP (0.66), strikeouts (133) and innings pitched (108). Meanwhile, Strasburg has once again established himself as one of the game’s premier pitchers, going 10-0 with a 2.90 ERA and 118 strikeouts (tied for third in MLB).
The Nationals have lost two in a row to the last-place Padres and are looking to bounce-back on their West Coast road trip as they head north to LA. Washington has a 5.5 game lead on the Miami Marlins for first in the NL East– a lead that continues to shrink.
The Dodgers, winners of three in a row, are 6.5 GB of the first-place Giants in the NL West, but currently hold one of the two Wild Card spots if the season ended today. Los Angeles is expected to activate outfielder Yasiel Puig (left hamstring) from the disabled list before the game to give a nice boost to their lineup.
Clayton Kershaw has been almost un-hittable against Washington, winning his last seven starts against the Nats, going 7-0 with a 0.82 ERA.
Prediction: Dodgers win a close one 3-1.
