My 2 Cents – Ben Affleck and ‘The Batman’
I really have to get something off my chest regarding this whole Ben Affleck Batman film and whether or not he is or isn’t directing. Ben has stated on several occasions that he is in fact directing the film. Ben just went on national television a couple of days ago and during a segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live had this to say regarding the film,
“I’m going to direct the next Batman. We’re working on it,” Affleck said. “It’s one of those things that’s really frustrating because Live By Night took me a year and a half to write it, and get it ready, and I worked really hard. And nobody gave a shit! No one was like ‘where’s Live By Night?!’ But with Batman I keep getting ‘where’s the f*cking Batman?!’. I’m like bro, I’m working! Give me a second.”
Look at this first sentence, I am going to direct the next Batman. He cannot spell it out any more clearer than that. Yet we continue to get click bait article after click bait article saying he isn’t directing the film or it’s on hold or that production is delayed. No matter what Ben says his words continue to be twisted, questioned, and doubted. On Twitter today, Frosty from Collider sent out a tweet saying he has less faith today than he did a month ago regarding Ben directing Batman. Seriously?! Ben just said the complete opposite! Are you calling Ben a liar? It isn’t like Ben told some random blogger or upstart magazine that he was directing Batman. He went on National Television and told the entire world that he is directing the film, you can’t get much more clearer than that.
Also it’s not just the constant doubt we are getting from bloggers and third rate sites but every reporter has hounded Ben about the movie. Do you not realize this man is more than just Batman? He is currently out promoting his upcoming film, ‘Live by Night’, which he also directed. But instead of being asked about that film, all he is getting is more questions about Batman. Ben has even said on numerous occasions that it seems no one gives a damn about any of his other films because all they ask about or care about is Batman. He has worked his ass off making Live by Night and instead of being able to enjoy it, he has to answer question after question about Batman.
Why does he continuously have to respond to the same question every night? He has answered it. Can we not just leave the man alone? I respect Ben for handling this with a smile and being a true professional but it is taking a toll on him. Let’s face it Ben does not need Batman, Batman needs him. Ben is the best Batman to ever put the suit on and it’s been his dream to play the role but I’m sure he wasn’t expecting this level of abuse from reporters. I don’t think any other actor to wear the cowl has been hounded as much as Ben has. I would not even be upset if Ben woke up one day and said, I am not doing the film. But I guarantee if he did say that then everyone would believe that. They wouldn’t question him any longer and fans would miss out on what could be the greatest cinematic experience ever for a comic book film. Ben is an Oscar winning director and actor. He is more than Batman and these reporters need to realize this and leave him the hell alone. Take what he has said and be satisfied. When he has more information then he will release it.
I have complete faith in Ben Affleck and I TRUST what he has told us. This is whole situation is just what seems to be more anti DC. As a fan it is so hard being a DC fan. Every article nowadays seems to be nothing but negative reporting or if we do get something positive then there is a follow up article trying to shatter our happiness. All we can do wait for an official word from Warner Bros regarding anything DC and avoid these horrendous click bait articles. Stay united DC fans!
