NBA Draft Sleeper Profile: Henry Ellenson
Henry Ellenson-Forward-Marquette (Freshman)
Height: 6′ 11.5″
Wingspan: 7′ 2.25″
2015-16 Stats: 17.0 points, 9.9 boards, 1.5 blocks, 28.8% 3PT
- Great offensive skill-set for size
- Solid ball-handling skills
- Can shoot from anywhere on the court
- 19-years-old, great potential
Analysis: I really enjoyed watching Ellenson at Marquette this past season (otherwise Marquette games were unwatchable). He can score in the low- and mid-post in a variety of ways. He can make jump hooks with both hands. He can back defenders down. He’s got a quick release on his mid-range jumper and can hit it going over either shoulder, and has the potential to be particularly deadly when using inside pivots. For a kid his size, his range of motion is phenomenal. He can grab a board and go coast-to-coast for a score.
- Doesn’t have ‘hops’
- Needs to increase 3-pt percentage to be an offensive force
Analysis: While Henry Ellenson’s offensive game is a sight to see his defensive skills are a sight to be seen as well—just not in a good way. Despite averaging 1.5 blocks at Marquette, it was due to his size and size only. He lacks the vertical explosiveness to challenge at the rim, and more than that, he seemed to simply shy away from it at times. He’s just not a guy with the sense of timing or the desire to be an elite shot blocker. He lacks the foot movement to keep up with athletic forwards at the next level and looked lost on the defensive end of the floor in college. How will that translate to the pros? Not well. He would be pulled in a heartbeat, and that could affect his playing time coming into the league, because he will be a defensive liability.
Round Projection: Lottery Pick
