NBA Preview and Prediction: Knicks vs Wizards
A win tonight would give the Washington Wizards their first 3-0 start in a decade. It would also be a franchise-best eighth straight victory over the New York Knicks. Washington started the season on a two-game road trip and beat Orlando 88-87 on Wednesday and rallied past Milwaukee 118-113 on Friday.
The Wizards now take on New York (1-1) in their first game at home, where they went 29-12 last season to post the third-most wins in the Eastern Conference.
New York has looked up-and-down in their first two games, a victory on the road in Milwaukee, and a loss at home to the Hawks on Thursday. Carmelo Anthony has looked rusty, as expected, coming back from knee surgery that ended his season in February 2015. He managed to score 25 points against the Hawks, but shot 10-of-27 from the field.
“I kind of prepared myself (for being rusty), but on the flip side of that I want to get it going,” Anthony said. “I don’t want to try to push it too much. I want to let it come to me naturally and not try to force it out there as far as trying to force my rhythm. It’ll come back. Everything will start clicking for me.”
Even with Anthony not being 100%, there have been players stepping up including free agent acquisition Robin Lopez and rookie Kristaps Porzingis who are both averaging 13 points per game.
Shooting Guard Arron Afflalo is questionable after missing the previous two games with a hamstring strain. Head Coach Derek Fisher said they will not rush Afflalo back this early in the season. If he misses another game Sasha Vujacic and Langston Galloway will receive the bulk of those minutes.
The Wizards are 7.5 point favorites to win at home and I believe they will cover the spread en route to their first 3-0 start in ten years.
Prediction: Knicks 92 Wizards 101
