NBA Preview for 10/28

Pacers vs. Raptors

The Pacers travel to Toronto hoping to get a leg up on this season, while the Raptors look to build on last year’s success.

Paul George makes the season debut after coming back for the last few games last season. Monta Ellis also makes his regular season debut for the Pacers. The question will be if they combine George and Ellis at the 2 and 3, with Hill running point. If this is the case, it will create interesting matchups at those positions.

The Raptors would match those positions with Kyle Lowry, Terrence Ross, and Demar DeRozan. On paper that is a great matchup for 1-3. DeMarre Carroll could be the addition that decides this game.

My Prediction: The Raptors post play will prove to be too much for the Pacers. Carroll and Valanciunas will own the paint, and the win.

Cavaliers vs. Grizzlies

The Grizzlies open at home with an East-West battle against the 0-1 Cavs.

The Cavaliers came up just short against Chicago last night. LeBron started with a double-double last night, and will need to have the same production tonight to give Cleveland a chance. The team as a whole is going to need to contribute more if they want a win.

The Grizzlies hope to finally break into the contender role they have flirted with for seasons. A win against the Cavaliers would give them a confidence boost to start. If the Grizzlies can play their physical style of basketball they can easily take this game. LeBron led teams have regularly struggled when teams make it a physical matchup.

My Prediction: The Cavaliers role players not providing sufficient play in their parts, coupled with Memphis’ staying physical with Cleveland, especially LeBron, leads to a Memphis win.

Spurs vs. Thunder

Two of the West contenders face off in their openers. We get to see LaMarcus Aldridge in his first regular season action. Also, we finally get the return of Kevin Durant.

The Spurs are in a rare position for a team. A big 3 transitioning out, and a new big 3 in place. This has kept them in the mix for winning the West, and tonight they take the step towards trying to win another title.

Kevin Durant returns to pilot the Thunder. The interesting thing to watch tonight is how his return will coincide with the triple-double king, Westbrook. If these two can mesh like they are capable of, this game will be theirs.

My Prediction: The possible for the downfall for the Thunder is the lack of a shooting guard. However, Durant and Westbrook can fill that void. The real question will be how OKC’s big men matchup on Aldridge. If they can stop him, they can win.
