Heat, Hornets and Grizzlies Complete Three team deal

Hornets acquire: Courtney Lee
A day after reporting Michael-Kidd Gilchrist will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum, Hornets go out and get wing help. They acquire shooter Lee, who was averaging 10 PPG, on 45.8% shooting and 37% from beyond the arc for the Grizzlies. Lee looks to help the Hornet, and looks to benefit off crafty guard Kemba Walker.

Grizzlies acquire: Chris Andersen, PJ Hairston, 2 future second round picks (CHA), 2 future second round picks (MIA)
The Grizzlies who are without their star big man Marc Gasol, ship away Lee and get big man Chris Andersen from the Heat. The Grizzlies stockpile on second round picks, receiving four in total, while picking up a young prospect in Hairston.

Heat acquire: Brian Roberts
The Heat’s main objective involved in this trade was to shed salary and they did so with trading away Chris Andersen. They go from owing $14.3 million in luxury tax, to $8.8 million, while also getting PG depth in Roberts to play behind Dragic.

Magic and Pistons mix it up

a
Magic acquire: PG Brandon Jennings, PF Ersan Ilyasova
The Magic get rid of Harris, and take a flier on Jennings who will become a free agent this off-season. The Magic are hoping to get Jennings whose before the injury was running the show in Detroit, and once seen as part of the pick-and-roll dynamic with Andre Drummond. Now we will see if he and slam Dunk runner-up Aaron Gordon and big man Nikola Vucevic can become that. The Magic also acquire Ilyasova, an upgrade at the stretch 4. These two deals now makes Channing Frye and Victor Oladipo expandable and possibly part of a bigger trade.

Pistons acquire: SF Tobias Harris
Man, Steve Van Gundy is at it again. After dealing for Reggie Jackson in last season’s deadline, and only giving up Kyle Singler, D.J. Augustin and a future second rounder. The deal looks like an absolute steal for the Pistons. And this trade has the makings for a similar outcome, as  they’ve clearly moved on from Brandon Jennings. And Ersan Ilyasova a good piece, is 28, but Harris represents versatility and wing help that they desired, whose 5 years younger. And at only 23, he [Harris], Jackson, Cadwell-Pope (when he returns from injury), and Drummond represents a young intriguing core

Could Howard return home?

With Howard most likely opting out of his contract after this season and becoming a free agent. Houston should look to trade him away now, rather than possibly losing him for nothing. One possibility is Howard’s hometown: Atlanta, and there looks like a match can be made. Howard and Atlanta had clear interest before Howard chose to go to Houston. But the two can pair up this time, as Howard could be shipped there and agree to work out a long-term extension. The Hawks have been looking for suitors for Jeff Teague, a borderline All Star and a clear upgrade over Ty Lawson for the Rockets. The Hawks would have to give up more for Howard, but a baseline trade starter of Teague and Howard could work for both clubs.

Magic Not Done Dealing?
With the Magic acquiring strech-4 Ilyasova from the Pistons, Channing Frye looks to be on the outs in Orlando. Ilyasova, an upgrade over Frye makes him expandable as he’s owed over $15 million for the next two seasons. There’s been talks that there’s a deal in place for Frye to be shipped to the Clippers. The Magic would acquire Lance Stephenson, and most likely waive the guard as he’s due over $9 million, or flip him elsewhere in another trade as the Magic may not be done yet. With Jennings being brought in from Detroit as well, Oladipo becomes more expandable and can be used as trade bait. Just 23 years old, he’s still young enough to reach his potential and the Magic could use that as leverage in trade talks.

Minnesota Looking to Deal

The Minnesota Timberwolves have an exciting young core, starting with Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine and Ricky Rubio. Well no so fast on that last one, as there has been rumors that the Timberwolves have made the Spaniard available in trade talks. Rubio, just 25 years old is still very young and a gifted passer as he’s averaging 8.6 APG this season. But that’s about as good as it gets for Rubio, as he struggles to get his shot. Rubio is shooting a mere 36.1% from the field and 29.2% from three as he’s averaging 9.7 PPG. While still young, the T’Wolves should trade the guard, as LaVine resembles a Westbrook-esque style and fit better along with the young and Towns and Wiggins. The T’Wolves could snag a good netting for the young Rubio and should pounce on that, while starting the LaVine-Wiggins-Towns exciting core. Along with their first round pick, that looks to be destined for another Top 5 selection. Along with Rubio, the T’Wolves have been exploring deals for Kevin Martin who has seen little court time, and could be used to bring in young prospects or picks. Martin, known for his scoring ability can help a playoff contender off the bench and be used as a spark plug.
