Netflix Horror-Style ‘Sabrina’ Casts Kiernan Shipka
Netflix announced a few weeks ago that they will begin production on a new series adapted from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic book series. They have finally cast their Sabrina: Kiernan Shipka
Shipka played Sally Draper, the daughter of Don and Betty Draper on the AMC hit drama Mad Men from 2007 until the shows final episode in 2015. She also appeared in FX’s Feud: Bette and Joan playing Bette Davis’ daughter B.D. Merill. Kiernan Shipka has also worked with Netflix before, voicing Helenist on the animated series Neo Yokio which starred Jaden Smith.
The original plan was for Sabrina to appear in the CW hit show Riverdale since she is in the same universe in the comics, and then get a spin-off show of her own, also on The CW. Plans then changed and it seems that she will not appear on Riverdale now and will instead get her own series on Netflix.
The official title of the series is The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and has already been greenlit for two ten episode seasons. Netflix seems to have a lot of faith in the series already, probably due to the overwhelming success of Riverdale for The CW which has already been renewed for a third season. Netflix streams the first season and has had a lot of success with it as well.
The creator and writer of Riverdale, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is also writing Sabrina as well as executive producing along with CW’s Greg Berlanti (Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, Riverdale).
No word yet on who else will be joining Kiernan Shipka on the show. The series is set for a 2018 release date.
