New England Patriots Number One Receiver: Julian Edelman
Julian Edelman had a terrific 2013 campaign, catching 105 passes for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns. Coming into 2014 many “experts” are not expecting the same type of production from Edelman. I look at Edelman as the newer version of Wes Welker in New England, both are short, quick, and agile. The Patriots seemingly have more receivers than all the other teams combined, but Edelman is the one who has developed the best chemistry with Tom Brady. At the start of training camp it is clear that Edelman is picking up right where he left off in 2013, catching balls from Brady all over the field. New England and Washington recently held a joint practice, and Edelman caught my eye catching multiple red zone passes. Edelman’s quickness showed on the field as he whizzed by Washington defensive backs throughout the entire drill. It was important for me to see Edelman being targeted often in the red zone. If Edelman can pull in double digit touchdowns, to go along with his catches and yards, he can conceivably be a top ten fantasy wide receiver in 2014. Not bad for a former college quarterback who is currently being drafted as the #31 wide receiver in fantasy drafts.
