After an almost 20 year ban Mix Martial Arts has now been legalized in New York.

The New York State Assembly passed the bill to legalize and regulate MMA by a vote of 113-25, marking Tuesday as a historic day for the rapidly growing sport.

The ban started in 1997 by Governor George Pataki, but over the last two decades MMA has evolved from the unregulated, no weight class mess that it was into a legitimate and organized sport. The New York Assembly decided that New York should join the other 49 states and allow MMA to be legal within its state borders. Now only a few more hurdles stand in our way of seeing the UFC have a massive event in Madison Square Garden.

The sport now has a new massive market to grow in, and the fans in New York finally have the opportunity to see the Octagon, and native fighters will be begging to fight in front of their hometown, friends and family.
