NFL Preseason News: Garoppolo, Titans, Rankings
The best sportsbook on the planet already has their early lines set for their Super Bowl 54 favorites.
But we haven’t even hit the preseason yet … and if you remember the last couple of years, some massively significant events – injuries– have occurred during the month of August. So what is the latest news as we head towards the 2019 NFL season?
Jimmy Garoppolo has been cleared from his season-ending ACL tear that happened in September of last season. Now, he is officially at camp. But coaches say he will not play in the August 10th preseason affair against the Dallas Cowboys.
Many a Niners’ fans were hoping to get a look at their franchise guy for the first time in a year this preseason. But with Garoppolo withheld in Preseason Week 1, it’s less than likely that they’ll see him on the field at Levi Stadium before the actual season kicks off.
The bright side is that 49ers fans might get to see some televised Garoppolo action against the Kansas City Chiefs in Preseason Week 3 … or perhaps in Week 2 against the Broncos.
Tennessee Titans Worthy as Long Shots?
We’ve said this before, and we’ll repeat it, teams tend to start to click in their second season under a new head coach. This is part of why pundits are so high on the Bears coming into the second year under Nagy in 2019. But the Tennessee Titans are flying under the Radar at 100/1 odds to win the Super Bowl. Of course, those are long odds and rightly so, but the Titans played quite well in their first year with Mike Vrabel at the helm. Their defense was No. 3 overall in points allowed and just 8th in the league in yards allowed. We can only expect this to get better under a defensive-minded head coach.
Mariota didn’t have any real deep-threat targets last year. He was stuck trying to win games off flat passes and short crossing routes. Still, they managed to win nine games and just barely missed the playoffs. Now the Titans have added a couple of talented targets for the Flyin’ Hawaiian to chuck the ball to. Adam Humphries comes over from Tampa Bay, and they drafted A.J. Brown, who could become an instant starter. On top of this, they have Tannehill as a backup in case Mariota goes out with another stinger. Though not the best in the league by any means, Ryan Tannehill is a capable backup with years of starting experience. So, if Mariota goes out, it isn’t game over. We could very well see a battle between the Titans and the Colts for the AFC South. And if they lose out to luck and the Colts, Tennessee has a great shot of making it into the post-season with a wildcard berth. 100/1? I like those odds, and I think they are worth a few bucks.
Latest Power Rankings
Post-draft power-rankings are always interesting. They are still idealistic, but usually a little more accurate than pre-draft.
The Cincinnati Bengals get the short end of the stick and come in at No. 32. The NY Giants are riding the No. 31 spot … while Gettleman is getting laughed out of NY (figuratively).
The Miami Dolphins are right there at the bottom as well, taking up the No. 30 spot. The Buffalo Bills, despite their fans thinking that they are awesome, and on the come-up (severe case of the Dunning-Kruger-effect in Buffalo) the Bills are 29th … better known as fourth-worst in the league.
The Jacksonville Jaguars round out the top-five worse teams with the No. 28 spot.
The Cleveland Browns are No. 5 according to the Milehigh Report, And with all the talent they’ve acquired, this is a fair assessment. Coming in at No. 4 the Green Bay Packers have a healthy Aaron Rodgers who’ll be coming into the season with a massive chip on his shoulder.
At No. 3, the LA Chargers seem ranked a bit high. But they will have Bosa returning, they have one of the best slot corners in the league, and of course, Keenan Allen is an unsung hero. The Philadelphia Eagles are ranked at No. 2, again I’m not sure if I agree with this assessment. I would put the Bears over the Eagles, and neither would be No. 2. But hey, I’m just relaying the information here.
And the best team in the league looks to be the Kansas City Chiefs, the reasons are apparent. They have the reigning league MVP running their offense, and he’s backed up with some serious talent and one of the best coaches in the business.https://www.myfantasysportstalk.com/nfl-preseason-news-garoppolo-titans-rankings/https://i2.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/2019-nfl-preseason-780x439.jpg?fit=780%2C439&ssl=1https://i2.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/2019-nfl-preseason-780x439.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1AFC EastAFC NorthAFC SouthAFC WestCincinnati BengalsCleveland BrownsLos Angeles ChargersMiami DolphinsNFC WestNFLRecent PostsSan Francisco 49ersTennessee Titans#Jimmy Garoppolo,Cleveland Browns,Miami Dolphins,NFL,nfl preseason,Preseason,San Francisco 49ers,Tennessee TitansThe best sportsbook on the planet already has their early lines set for their Super Bowl 54 favorites.
