No.10 Syracuse vs. No.7 Dayton: Round 1 Preview
The 2016 NCAA Tournament is underway!
Syracuse was one of the teams critics say was gifted a tournament bid this year. The Orange finished 10th in the ACC, with an overall 19-13 record and a 9-9 conference record. The team struggled heavily through the end of the season. They went on a losing streak that included a Round 1 knockout by University of Pittsburgh in the ACC Tournament. Syracuse didn’t have a stellar season but did get quality wins over four ranked teams this year, including Duke University. Syracuse isn’t projected to have a strong tournament run this year.
The Dayton Flyers are a big opposite of Syracuse. The team performed exceptionally to get a tournament bid this year, the third season in a row under head coach Archie Miller (brother of Arizona’s HC Sean). The Flyers finished 1st in the A-10 conference with an overall 25-7 record and a 14-4 conference record. Dayton can be a dangerous team in the tournament with a record to show for it. The team went on an eight game winning streak during the season with two streaks of five games as well.
The only stat that is consistent with both teams is points allowed, with 65.7 for Syracuse and 65.8 for Dayton. In the stats of team points, rebounds, and assists per game, Dayton beats Syracuse in all those categories making this match up in favor of Dayton.
Tune into CBS at 12:15 PM Eastern Time for the game on Friday.
