(USA TODAY Sports)

Strengths:

  • Very athletic
  • Gains separation with solid burst
  • Runs with long, loose strides downfield
  • Works all levels
  • Has potential to become a nightmare cover near end zone
  • Had TD every four catches
  • Understands hand usage while blocking

Weaknesses:

  • Thinner lower half
  • Play strength is questionable
  • Want to see more effort blocking
  • Gets bumped off route too often
  • Alligator arms causes drops
  • Lacks zone coverage awareness

Analysis: Fant is a very athletic receiving tight end who excels by using his length and speed to create separation from defenders. He is dangerous in open space and can easily outrun linebackers at the next level. I want to see more physicality in his game and his play strength will need to improve if he is going to be a three-down tight end. Right now, he would not be utilized in the blocking game–getting overpowered by NFL lineman. I see a lot of Evan Engram in his game (I did like Engram a lot more coming out) but he is a dangerous weapon in the passing game. On tape, he was a little skiddish going over the middle, alligator arming a lot of passes. Zone coverage awareness needs work, knowing how to find the soft spots is something he can learn when he gets with his position coach. Overall, he is an elite prospect in this class who can step in immediately and be a safety net plus some to any QB.
